Rotorua 2019

Te Arawa waka, Te Arawa tangata, and Ngāti Whakaue extended a warm welcome to our guests who traveled from as far as Ōpōtiki to Tūrangi and from Katikati in the Western Bay of Plenty to join us for the annual Māori Youth Leadership Summit at the Rotorua Events Centre in March 2019.

During the summit, over 140 rangatahi from 21 schools had the privilege of hearing from five esteemed speakers, each a leader in their respective fields. These inspirational individuals included Kendall Flutey, Potaua Biasiny-Tule, Lee Timutimu, Ngawiki Ormsby, and Te Mauri Kingi. Divided into teams of six and guided by the foundations of the Design Thinking approach using Kia Mau Talent’s Māui framework, participants engaged in tackling key problem statements, informed by a rangatahi Māori survey.

At the conclusion of the summit, teams presented their innovative solutions to the entire audience, showcasing the remarkable creativity and dedication of our rangatahi.
